Student Experience

Paying it Forward

Seven years after graduating from the University of Arizona, Kristina Boynova has established the Natalia and Nadezhda Gaganova Award, an annual financial award given to a communication major who has demonstrated perseverance in their academic journey. This award is designated for international students – with a priority to students from Russia – mirroring Boynova’s own story.

Writing the Border

Three to four students from the SFSW Program of the University of Arizona travel every summer to research and write on social justice and environmental challenges unique to the U.S.-Mexico border in Patagonia, Ariz. These students also lead storytelling workshops and engage in hands-on environmental restoration projects with 10-15 high school students from underserved border communities, in collaboration with the Borderlands Restoration Network’s Borderlands Earth Care Youth Program.

Amplifying the Broadcast

To provide upcoming journalists with the tools they need to train, Adelaida and Barry Severson donated funds to create the Severson Family Broadcasting/Podcasting Studio and Lab at the University of Arizona. The space will include state-of-the-art technology, green screens, in-room acoustics, and sound and light proofing on the third floor of the Marshall Building on campus.
