Halle Foundation unites University of Arizona and Banner Health to expand primary care graduate medical education
The Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation has awarded transformative grants to the University of Arizona Health Sciences and Banner Health to expand primary care graduate medical education, or GME, across Arizona. Together, the two initiatives will create nearly 200 new residency positions and build a sustainable framework for training physicians in rural, tribal and underserved communities.

Campaign Priorities
The University Ecosystem
“There’s a synergistic effect between the top faculty and the top students,” says Ian Pepper, Regents Professor of environmental science. The Fuel Wonder campaign’s ecosystem priority emphasizes that scholarships, endowed chairs and resources to power knowledge discovery help the Wildcat community to holistically thrive. It argues that the university is special because of the people who comprise it.
The Front Porch
The roar of thousands clapping out “Bear Down, Arizona” in McKale Center. The pin-drop silence that permeates a theater just before the standing ovation following a play. Arizona Athletics and Arizona Arts are touchstones for Tucson residents, alumni and friends. The university’s “front porch” delivers experiences that draw visitors to campus and contribute to the rich cultural fabric of Southern Arizona — so much so that they are built into the university’s strategic plan and are an area of focus in Fuel Wonder.
Moonshot
A moonshot is a brave and audacious endeavor. The campaign’s moonshot priority is about meeting tomorrow’s grand challenges through research and innovation. It asks us to think past limits and achieve what is beyond reach, setting the stage for global Wildcat impact. Among the university’s moonshot initiatives is the Center for Advanced Molecular and Immunological Therapies, a biomedical research hub forwarding novel strategies for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease.
