Eller Board Member Passes
Long time Eller supporter, Lisle Payne, passed away on October 12, 2022. Payne graduated from the Eller College of Management in 1964. He went on to be a beloved member of the Eller College National Board of Advisors for 20 years, received recognition as the Eller Alumnus of the Year in 2011 and because of their dedication and support of the Marketing Department, the Eller College of Management, and the University of Arizona, the Paynes were welcomed into the Founders Society this year which recognizes donors who have contributed $1M in their lifetime.
He and his wife Roslyn established the Leadership in Marketing Initiative for the Marketing Department and the funds for the endowment have been used to support the annual Lisle and Roslyn Payne Research Symposium—the marketing department’s most celebrated research event.
The Department of Marketing has also established the Lisle and Roslyn Payne Outstanding Doctoral Student Award in their honor.
After graduating from the Eller College, Payne completed the MBA program at the University of California, Berkeley and after graduating he started the Fox Group, where he was CEO. Throughout his career, Payne demonstrated leadership in the real estate industry at the national, state and local levels. He was also on the board of directors for the Real Estate Securities and Syndication Institutes, Chair of the Board of Directors for the California Housing Council and member of the Real Estate Investment Committee to the Corporations Commission of California.
“Since becoming department head I connected with Lisle on multiple occasions,” says Yong Liu, Robert A. Eckert Endowed Chair in Marketing and marketing department head. “He was a smart and generous person with a great sense of humor and will always be in our memories.”
