Advancing solutions for our biggest environmental challenges:

At the Arizona Institute for Resilient Environments and Societies (AIRES), we care deeply about the world we live in, from our own backyard in the Sonoran Desert to the farthest reaches of the globe. Our interdisciplinary team specializes in climate adaptation, stewardship of the American West, and environmental arts and humanities. Through our collaborative expertise, we are tackling some of our country’s most critical environmental issues, including drought, wildfire, urban sprawl, and natural and cultural resource management.

Your support can help societies, especially those in dry regions, make the best-informed decisions for a sustainable future. Gifts to AIRES help make our interdisciplinary research, events, outreach, and teaching possible. This includes lecture circuits, talks, and journal publications, as well as creative arts that seek to inspire action and reimagine solutions to environmental issues.

Natural Resources 2 Building

Designed to look and feel like a slot canyon, the Environment & Natural Resources 2 building fosters interdisciplinary research in earth and environmental sciences, natural resources, and math, and is the home of AIRES. This building exemplifies the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability, incorporating energy efficient heating and cooling systems, rainwater harvesting, and other innovative architectural solutions in a desert landscape.
